Private prison head freed in Afghanistan - Boston.com (634 words)
Bennett, former U.S. soldier Jack Keith Idema, and Edward Caraballo were arrested in July 2004 and convicted of running a private prison in Kabul after Afghan security forces raided a house and discovered eight Afghan men who said they had been abused.
He said Bennett had been forcibly removed from his cell earlier in the week during a night of violence at the prison that included a fire being set in a cell block and gunfire from guards.
Bennett's mother, Debra Bennett, said she hadn't heard from her son directly and didn't know his plans, but that Tiffany had told her he had left Afghanistan.
WD62959: Wanda Brown, Respondent v. Brent Bennett, et al., Appellants. (1867 words)
Brent and Angela Bennett appeal a judgment in a court-tried case awarding Wanda Brown $17,825 in compensatory and $10,000 in punitive damages in her fraud action against the Bennetts.
She sued the Bennetts for their misrepresentation that the property did not have any "[s]ettling, flooding, drainage, grading, or soil problems." Thus, the relevant question is whether the flooding was patent, not whether the cause of the flooding was patent.
According to the Bennetts, it was reasonable for them to assume that the problem was the City's to fix, and to assume that because stopping the flooding was not one of the City's priorities, neither should it matter to them.
