In the First Battle of Magh Tuiredh, King Nuada of the Tuatha Dé Danaan lost his hand; because he was imperfect, he could not be king. Hoping to reconcile relations between the Fomorians and the Tuatha de Danaan, Bres was named king and Brigid of the Tuatha de Danaan married him.
Bres raised taxes, made the Tuatha Dé work as slaves, and neglected his duties of hospitality. After seven years, Nuada had his hand replaced with a superior, silver one by Dian Cecht and Creidne, and Bres was exiled. He led the Fomorians in the second Battle of Magh Tuiredh but lost. He was not killed because he promised to teach the Tuatha de agriculture.
A breed should also be distinguished from a strain, which is simply the descendants of a single significant individual, and which in domesticated animals is also known as a bloodline.
