Brixen am Eisack (German) or Bressanone (Italian) is a town in the autonomous province of South Tyrol (part of the autonomous region Trentino-South Tyrol) in northern Italy.
Although rather small (population 19,000), it is an old (founded 901) and the third largest town of South Tyrol and especially well known as a major skiing ressort.
As throughout the region, the majority of the population speaks AustrianTyrol.
Bressanone is characterized by a number of ancient roads, bridges, colonnades and churches which evoke the flavors of the past.
Bressanone hosts a number of events throughout the year, the most famous of which is the Festa in the Historic Center, Caberet del Teatro in the 'Anreiter' cellar, and numerous concerts.
Bressanone is also a chosen destination for conferences and symposiums mainly held in the Nikolaus Cusano Academy.
When, to this historic importance still evident today, you add the great winter sports opportunities, designer shopping, restaurants and the marvelous wines of the surrounding Eisackl Valley, then you have the makings of a great ski vacation!
In common with nearly all resorts in the South Tirol, Brixen has two names, Brixen, the German version, and 'Bressanone', the Italian one.
