The park, about 20 ha, was laid out in 1906 as the biggest public park in Brest.The park features dozens of rare species of trees for this part of Europe, e.g. platan, tamarisk, elm, serpentine spruce (Picea Abies "Virgata"). 2006 marks the park's centenary. That's why the park is undergoing a huge reconstruction. On October 16,2004 the park was reopened on completion of the 1st stage of the reconstruction. Now visitors can see a big disco club, a concert stage in the open air, an amusement park and 2 lovely ponds that are called here Lakes: Upper lake and Lower Lake. They are connected by a canal. Plymouth is a city in the South West of England, or alternatively the Westcountry, and is situated within the traditional county of Devon.
The city was extensively blitzed during the Second World War, to the extent that approximately twice the amount of housing stock that existed prior to the war was destroyed during it (as a consequence of rebuilt houses being successively hit).
The city's boundaries were extended in the mid-1930s and further expanded in 1967 to include the town of Plympton and the parish of Plymstock.
In March 1918, in the Brest-Litovsk fortress on the western outskirts of Brest at the confluence of the Western Bug and Mukhavets Rivers, the Treaty of Brest-Litovsk was signed, ending the war between Russia and the Central Powers and transferring the city and its surrounding region to the sphere of influence of the German Empire.
During the Polish September Campaign in 1939 the city was defended by a small garison of four infantry battalions under Gen. Konstanty Plisowski against the XIX Panzer Corps of Gen. Heinz Guderian.
The city was invaded and annexed by the Soviet Union in 1939 in accordance with the Ribbentrop-Molotov pact partitioning Poland signed with Nazi Germany in August, 1939.
