Encyclopedia > Briarwood

Briarwood is a neighborhood in the borough of Queens in New York City. It is located west of Jamaica and bounded by Queens Boulevard, Main Street, the Grand Central Parkway and Hillside Avenue. It is serviced by the F train subway line.


Briarwood is mainly a residential neighborhood. Noted actor Steven Weber (of the television series "Wings") is from Briarwood.


Briarwood is home to the Catholic Archbishop Molloy High School (http://www.molloyhs.org/). One of the school's more famous alumni is actor David Caruso, who is currently featured on the series CSI Miami. The school is named in honor of Archbishop Thomas Molloy. It has about 1,550 students.
