Encyclopedia > Bricket Wood railway station

Bricket Wood is the intermediate station on the St Albans Branch Line. The station once boasted a passing loop and second platform that could accomodate long excursion trains. Many Edwardian families from London came to Bricket Wood to enjoy the fresh air, woodland and two large funfairs which once stood nearby. The St Albans Abbey Branch Line is a railway line from Watford Junction to St Albans Abbey railway station. ...

Today there is a 45min service in either direction Monday to Saturday, hourly on Sundays. The railway is the quickest way to get between Watford and St Albans, taking only 16mins.

The station building at Bricket Wood, long disused, is now the only surviving original building on the line. It is hoped to find a new use for this in the near future thanks to the Community Rail Partnership.

It has also long been hoped that the passing loop will be re-installed. This will enable a 30min service to run. The options for this are currently being investigated.
