Bridgehouses was the main Sheffield station on the Great Central Railway, between Chesterfield and Penistone. The station was in use as a passenger terminal from 1845, when the Sheffield, Ashton-under-Lyne and Manchester Railway (which eventually formed part of the Great Central) opened, until the opening of an extension across the Wicker Arches to the new Sheffield Victoria Station on 15 September 1851.
