Briley Parkway is an uninterrupted, divided highway on its northern loop from I-40 near the airport to I-40 in West Nashville. Much of the northern loop between I-40 and I-65 (the section passing through Donelson and Pennington Bend) is under a massive construction project to widen it from four lanes to eight lanes, including new interchanges at I-40, U.S. 31-E, and I-65. The project is scheduled to be completed in 2007. South of Nashville, Briley Parkway becomes Thompson Lane and Woodmont Boulevard, before changing to White Bridge Road and Briley Parkway again. These roads are not interrupted, divided highways. Beverly Briley - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (407 words)
Briley served in the US Navy during World War II and afterwards ran a successful campaign for county judge (chief executive) of Davidson County in 1946, serving until 1963.
Briley was a champion of metropolitan government and in 1963 won election against Davidson County tax assessor Clifford Allen, another longtime Nashville politician, and became the first mayor of what is known as Metro Nashville.
His grandson, Rob Briley, is active in local politics and represents a Nashville district in the state legislature; another grandson, David Briley, is a city council representative in Nashville.
