The Bring Your Own Film Festival (BYOFF) is a film festival started off in year 2004 in the beaches of the temple town Puri, in Orissa state of India. The uniqueness lies in the fact that there is no formal screening or qualifying process. Mainly a forum for independent filmmakers, anyone can just walk-in, register and exhibit his work. As common, the film market outside of the United States led the trend, but it was the Sundance FilmFestival in Park City, Utah that paved the way for smaller festivals today, such as Slamdance, Taos Talking Pictures, Chicago Underground, and the Telluride festival.
Film is glamorous to a lot people too, and whether they have a lot or a little to give, the association with movies and movie stars helps them out too.
Not all festivals pay for everything listed here, but remember that filmmaking is an expensive medium, and the filmmakers may not be able to afford to come or they may be too famous to expect to come for free or for too little.
