Plot summary Spoiler warning: Plot and/or ending details follow. Steve Martin plays Peter a repressed tax attorney who is taken in by the bright, intelligent e-mails he gets from someone whose online screen name is '"lawyergirl". But on their first blind date, Peter learns that "lawyergirl" is Charlene (Queen Latifah), a convicted bank robber claiming her innocence who wants Peter's help in getting the charges dropped. It's You've Got Bail. Or, since Charlene extorts Peter into letting her live with him while he works on her case, it's Cribsitter instead of Housesitter. Peter is courting Mrs. Arness (Joan Plowright), an old cranky billionaire, to bring her business to his firm. Incidentally, he's struggling to stay on top at the firm, where eager young lawyers try to undermine him. And his chirpy neighbor (Betty White), who happens to be related to one of the senior partners, is a nosy bigot. Peter needs to keep his life, as Charlene might say, on the "down low". Steve Martin's big moment comes when he slips into his "Wanksta" persona, tries to go incognito in a hip-hop outfit, a moment that parodies Bulworth.
