Bristol is a borough located in Bucks County, Pennsylvania. As of the 2000 census, the borough had a total population of 9,923.

Geography

Bristol is located at 40°6'12" North, 74°51'5" West (40.103382, -74.851448)1.


According to the United States Census Bureau, the borough has a total area of 4.8 km˛ (1.9 mi˛). 4.3 km˛ (1.6 mi˛) of it is land and 0.5 km˛ (0.2 mi˛) of it is water. The total area is 10.81% water.


Demographics

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 9,923 people, 4,004 households, and 2,442 families residing in the borough. The population density is 2,322.0/km˛ (6,016.5/mi˛). There are 4,207 housing units at an average density of 984.4/km˛ (2,550.8/mi˛). The racial makeup of the borough is 83.46% White, 8.79% African American, 0.15% Native American, 0.34% Asian, 0.03% Pacific Islander, 4.50% from other races, and 2.72% from two or more races. 11.53% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.


There are 4,004 households out of which 28.0% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 39.7% are married couples living together, 15.9% have a female householder with no husband present, and 39.0% are non-families. 33.3% of all households are made up of individuals and 14.3% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.48 and the average family size is 3.20.


In the borough the population is spread out with 24.5% under the age of 18, 8.8% from 18 to 24, 30.5% from 25 to 44, 20.5% from 45 to 64, and 15.7% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 36 years. For every 100 females there are 90.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 88.3 males.


The median income for a household in the borough is $35,378, and the median income for a family is $44,517. Males have a median income of $35,090 versus $27,836 for females. The per capita income for the borough is $17,198. 10.4% of the population and 8.2% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 14.7% of those under the age of 18 and 10.5% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.

Bristol is a borough in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, 23 miles (37 km) northeast of Philadelphia opposite Burlington, N.J. on the Delaware River.
First settled as Buckingham (for Buckingham, England) in 1681, the borough of Bristol, Pennsylvania is one of the oldest settlements in the United States, and is about 15-30 minutes north of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Bristol is rich in history, boasting many historic and restored houses that line the streets of Radcliffe and Mill.

Because of the proximity of the original location to the Keystone Flying Field, the location of the proposed bridge was moved downstream to Maple Beach (on the Bristol side) and Reed Street (on the Burlington side).
Part of PA 413 and NJ 413, the Burlington-Bristol Bridge carries approximately 25,000 vehicles per day (AADT), and serves mostly local traffic between US 13 on the Pennsylvania side and US 130 on the New Jersey side.
