Bristol is the largest city in the South West and was once England's second city, a busy port that brought wealth and prestige to the nation.
Bristol is surrounded by beautiful countryside and this, together with its many visitor attractions and diverse shopping centres, makes it a very popular tourist destination with around 9 million tourist visits each year.
Bristol is not an affluent city and the local authority is experiencing the same problems as other city councils in delivering core services and fulfilling the aspirations of its corporate strategy across all areas including the arts.
