The original units, numbered in the range 1119-1122, were two-car versions of the Class 205 '3H' units, and were classified as 2H under the old system. Three of the four units were reformed in 1979 with the addition of centre trailers, and thus were reclassified as Class 205 (or 3H). The fourth unit was converted into a 3T set (see below). In 1979, four units were converted from Class 205 units, by reforming the ex-2EPB driving trailers from redundant Class 206 units.
