Encyclopedia > British Rail D9998

D9998 was a prototype diesel shunting locomotive built in 1961 by Brush Traction Ltd to demonstrate its wares to British Railways. It was of 0-4-0 wheel arrangement and was fitted with a Petter McLaren engine of 200hp. It had a maximum speed of 18mph and weighed 30tons.

The British Rail Class 47 diesel locomotive also known as a Brush Type Four is a class of British locomotive.
It was specially repainted in its original British Railway two-tone green livery, and given its original number of D1748, to commemorate the retirement of the First Great Western Class 47 fleet.
This locomotive is operated by Cotswold Rail, whose livery it carries.
