Going north of downtown, Broad Street turns into the center of the African-American communities of North Philadelphia. After it finally leaves the city limits, Broad Street turns into Route 611, which is an equally important avenue that features many stores for the suburbs.

Despite being one of the buisest avenues in the city, every year Broad Street is shut down for the annual Broad Street run, a 10 mile race.
