Bronwyn entered politics in 1999, at age 43, where she was the Minister for Housing and Aged Care and Minister Assisting the Health Minister. In 2002 she was appointed as Minister for Community Services and Minister Assisting the Premier on Community Building. Following the re-election of the Bracks government in late 2002 Bronwyn was promoted to Minsiter for Health.
Health Minister As Minister for Health, Bronwyn has overseen the rebuilding of Victoria's public health system, delivering an 83% funding increase for public hospitals, as well as the employment of more than 7,000 additional nurses and 1,200 additional doctors in the public health system. She has been embroiled in a number of controversies, including the poor management of eastern mental health services which have prompted calls for her resignation in 2007.
