Brookfield is a town located in Orange County, Vermont. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 1,222. Brookfield is best known for its floating bridge which spans Sunset Lake bouyed by pontoons. The bridge, which is the only floating bridge east of the Mississippi, was originally built in 1820 by Luther Adams and his neighbors.
