Brookline is a village located in Greene County, Missouri. As of the 2000 census, the village had a total population of 326.


Geography

Brookline is located at 37°10'45" North, 93°25'2" West (37.179117, _93.417279)1.


According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 10.4 km˛ (4.0 mi˛). 10.4 km˛ (4.0 mi˛) of it is land and none of it is covered by water.


Demographics

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 326 people, 139 households, and 97 families residing in the village. The population density is 31.4/km˛ (81.3/mi˛). There are 155 housing units at an average density of 14.9/km˛ (38.7/mi˛). The racial makeup of the village is 99.08% White, 0.00% African American, 0.31% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 0.61% from two or more races. 0.00% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.


There are 139 households out of which 25.9% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 56.1% are married couples living together, 9.4% have a female householder with no husband present, and 29.5% are non-families. 25.2% of all households are made up of individuals and 8.6% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.35 and the average family size is 2.76.


In the village the population is spread out with 21.5% under the age of 18, 5.8% from 18 to 24, 30.1% from 25 to 44, 28.5% from 45 to 64, and 14.1% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 41 years. For every 100 females there are 92.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 91.0 males.


The median income for a household in the village is $29,750, and the median income for a family is $41,750. Males have a median income of $34,063 versus $25,313 for females. The per capita income for the village is $17,130. 13.2% of the population and 9.5% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 23.8% of those under the age of 18 and 8.3% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
