The Brooklyn Community Board 2 is a local governement unit of the city of New York, encompassing the neighborhood of Brooklyn Heights, Fulton Mall, Boerum Hill, Fort Greene, Brooklyn Navy Yard, Fulton Ferry, and Clinton Hill in the borough of Brooklyn. It is delimited by East River on the west and the north, by Kent and Classon Avenues on the east, as well as by Atantic Avenue, Pacific street, 4th avenue, Warren and Court street on the south. As of 2000, the Community Board has a population of 98,620, up from 94,534 in 1990 and 92,732 in 1980.
Of them (as of 2000), 33,931 (34.4%) are White non hispanic, 39,916 (40.5%) are African-American , 4,629 (4.7%) Asian or Pacific Islander, 213 (0.2%) American Indian or Native Alskan, 473 (0.5%) of some other race, 2,923 (3%) of two or more race, 16,535 (16.8%) of Hispanic origins.
17.4% of the population benefit from public assistance as of 2004, up from 22.5% in 2000. N.Y.U. satellite-campus proposal lifts off at C.B. 2 (1207 words)
Community Board 2 has jumped onboard the growing grassroots effort to get New York University to locate one or more secondary campuses outside the Village.
The board’s resolution suggests several areas the city is currently redeveloping that would be appropriate for a satellite campus, such as Downtown Brooklyn, Long Island City, the Williamsburg/Greenpoint waterfront, Lower Manhattan and Ground Zero, Hudson Yards and Governors Island.
Don MacPherson, a member of the Zoning and Housing Committee, who was angered that the committee had not approved the resolution at its Feb. 9 meeting and had accused the community board of “not representing the community,” made a point of publicly thanking Derr at the full boar meeting for allowing the vote.

Community District Two’s area includes many neighborhoods, The Downtown Business District, Metrotech, Atlantic Center, the New York Marriott Brooklyn Hotel, and the Navy Yard which houses hundreds of small businesses.
