Brooks is a census-designated place located in Bullitt County, Kentucky. As of the 2000 census, the CDP had a total population of 2,678.


Geography

Brooks is located at 38°4'5" North, 85°42'40" West (38.068139, _85.711202)1.


According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 12.1 km˛ (4.7 mi˛). 12.1 km˛ (4.7 mi˛) of it is land and none of it is covered by water.


Demographics

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 2,678 people, 1,032 households, and 762 families residing in the CDP. The population density is 220.9/km˛ (571.7/mi˛). There are 1,083 housing units at an average density of 89.3/km˛ (231.2/mi˛). The racial makeup of the CDP is 97.31% White, 0.71% African American, 0.67% Native American, 0.22% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.19% from other races, and 0.90% from two or more races. 0.90% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.


There are 1,032 households out of which 34.1% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 56.4% are married couples living together, 12.1% have a female householder with no husband present, and 26.1% are non-families. 20.6% of all households are made up of individuals and 4.7% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.59 and the average family size is 3.00.


In the CDP the population is spread out with 25.8% under the age of 18, 8.8% from 18 to 24, 31.7% from 25 to 44, 27.6% from 45 to 64, and 6.2% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 36 years. For every 100 females there are 99.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 97.1 males.


The median income for a household in the CDP is $41,824, and the median income for a family is $51,146. Males have a median income of $37,225 versus $23,476 for females. The per capita income for the CDP is $17,675. 10.6% of the population and 5.9% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 17.7% of those under the age of 18 and 6.9% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.

Brooks and Marks argue that even though the jury was presented with evidence that the robbed banks were located in Louisville, Jefferson County, Kentucky, no witness ever specifically testified that the banks were located in the Western District of Kentucky.
