Brookwood is a town located in United States. As of the 2000 census, the population of the town is 1,483.

Geography

Brookwood is located at 33°14'21" North, 87°19'11" West (33.239110, _87.319746)¹.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 21.2 km² (8.2 mi²). 21.1 km² (8.1 mi²) of it is land and 0.1 km² (0.1 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.61% water.

Demographics

As of the census² of 2000, there are 1,483 people, 553 households, and 430 families residing in the town. The population density is 70.4/km² (182.3/mi²). There are 613 housing units at an average density of 29.1/km² (75.4/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 97.91% White, 0.54% Black or African American, 0.07% Native American, 0.13% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.20% from other races, and 1.15% from two or more races. 0.34% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 553 households out of which 42.1% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 63.3% are married couples living together, 9.4% have a female householder with no husband present, and 22.2% are non-families. 19.2% of all households are made up of individuals and 6.7% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.68 and the average family size is 3.07.

In the town the population is spread out with 28.9% under the age of 18, 8.7% from 18 to 24, 33.1% from 25 to 44, 21.8% from 45 to 64, and 7.5% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 34 years. For every 100 females there are 99.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 96.5 males.

The median income for a household in the town is $40,104, and the median income for a family is $46,071. Males have a median income of $38,929 versus $23,571 for females. The per capita income for the town is $18,670. 8.2% of the population and 6.2% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 10.1% of those under the age of 18 and 5.4% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
