Brownstown Township is a civil township of Wayne County in the U.S. state of Michigan. As of the 2000 census, the township had a total population of 22,989. The 2004 census estimate was 28,041. The Southeast Michigan Council of Governments (SEMCOG) estimates the population to be 28,989 as of March 2006. With an over 26 percent increase in population from 2000 to 2006, Brownstown Township is the fastest growing community in Wayne County. It is part of the collection of communities known as Downriver. There were 9,008 housing units at an average density of 154.9/km² (401.3/mi²). There were 8,322 households out of which 40.3% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 58.6% were married couples living together, 12.6% had a female householder with no husband present, and 24.9% were non-families. 19.8% of all households were made up of individuals and 4.3% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.
