Brundidge is a city located in Pike County, Alabama, USA. As of the 2000 census, the population of the city is 2,341.


Geography

Brundidge is located at 31°43'9" North, 85°49'5" West (31.719218, _85.818119)1.


According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 25.2 km˛ (9.7 mi˛). 25.1 km˛ (9.7 mi˛) of it is land and 0.1 km˛ (0.04 mi˛) of it is water. The total area is 0.31% water.


Demographics

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 2,341 people, 1,014 households, and 652 families residing in the city. The population density is 93.2/km˛ (241.2/mi˛). There are 1,192 housing units at an average density of 47.4/km˛ (122.8/mi˛). The racial makeup of the city is 33.40% White, 63.52% Black or African American, 0.51% Native American, 0.26% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 2.31% from two or more races. 0.81% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.


There are 1,014 households out of which 23.1% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 36.7% are married couples living together, 24.1% have a female householder with no husband present, and 35.7% are non-families. 33.3% of all households are made up of individuals and 15.6% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.30 and the average family size is 2.93.


In the city the population is spread out with 22.7% under the age of 18, 8.1% from 18 to 24, 23.3% from 25 to 44, 26.4% from 45 to 64, and 19.5% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 42 years. For every 100 females there are 82.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 75.0 males.


The median income for a household in the city is $16,774, and the median income for a family is $19,531. Males have a median income of $25,720 versus $16,358 for females. The per capita income for the city is $12,357. 35.5% of the population and 31.6% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 51.0% of those under the age of 18 and 37.0% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
