Conti was on the Italian national side that won the 1982 FIFA World Cup. He played an instrumental role in Italy's win in the Final. Despite being booked for a foul on Karl-Heinz Förster after 31 minutes, he was a central figure in Italy's second goal that was scored by Marco Tardelli and created Italy's third goal by breaking from the half-way line and picking out Alessandro Altobelli to score after 81 minutes.
