As a result of the French decision in 1966 not to participate in the integrated military structure of NATO anymore, Headquarters AFCENT came to Brunssum in 1966 and settled in the premises of the former coal mine State Mine Hendrik, the Emma Mine and the Tapijn Barracks in Maastricht.

In Brunssum this was very obvious, while amidst the few postholes found in the central part of the church a small oven was found.
The presence of an oven underneath the first stone church in Brunssum is a warning to prevent an ecclesiastical interpretation of the postholes.
Finds are rare in churches and it is probably only because of the fact that this church was built in the midst of a contemporary settlement, that we have some pottery finds in stratigraphic relation with the elements of the church building.
