Coat of arms

Buchloe has quite a simple coat of arms, being a shield, party per pale, gules and argent. It was bestowed on the town officially in 1834, although it is based on a much earlier design that was already in use about 1500. The colours are those of the State of Augsburg, to which Buchloe belonged from 1311 to 1803, when it was absorbed into Bavaria. In the late nineteenth century, Buchloe assumed a different coat of arms, still a party per pale (ie a shield split straight down the middle) and silver on the right half, but gold on the left half with two leafy twigs – likely meant to be beech as the town's name comes from Buche, the German word for beech – twined about each other to form an emblem shaped rather like a section sign ("§"). In 1950, however, the original arms were officially restored.[1] Augsburg is a city in south-central Germany. ... Alternative meaning: Nineteenth Century (periodical) (18th century — 19th century — 20th century — more centuries) As a means of recording the passage of time, the 19th century was that century which lasted from 1801-1900 in the sense of the Gregorian calendar. ... An earlier component of the economy of Buchloe was a Nazi work camp where thousands of innocent people were enslaved and worked to death. Within a few kilometres of the camp were a number of towns including Buchloe itself, Wiedergeltingen, Honsolgen and Landsberg. In April 1945 the camp inmates were freed by the 2d Battalion, 506 Parachute Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne Division of the U.S. Army.

Consistently with the abject moral bankruptcy that led them to enthusiastically support Adolf Hitler and the rest of his gang of criminals, makers of aggressive war and mass murderers, all the inhabitants of the surrounding towns disclaimed any knowledge of the existence of the Buchloe camp, much less what was happening there.

Rather, they left the righting of their wrong to tailors, taxi drivers, students, farmers - all free citizens with no responsibilty for the wrong. They left it to them to fight and die and be maimed at Normandy, Bastogne and Arnhem to finally reach Buchloe and do what should never have been needed to be done but for the craven, syncophantic worshippers of a meglomaniac criminal - their hero, no less.

The camp guards had run away rather than face the justice they so richly deserved. The paratroopers treated the locals with the mercy that they didn't deserve.

Security

Buchloe has a police station and a volunteer fire brigade with various fire engines. Within the town are also found a Bavarian Red Cross office and a chapter of the Wasserwacht ("Water Watch", or lifeguard service).
