Encyclopedia > Buck (band)

Sprung from the ashes of Vancouver's pop trio cub, bassist/vocalist LISA MARR "unleashed a new band on an unsuspecting world". BUCK began lighting up the L.A. music scene in early '98 after Marr relocated to the City of Angels in the name of true love. (She's married to Muffs bassist Ronnie Barnett) cub (not capitalized) was an indie rock band from Vancouver, British Columbia which formed in 1992 and disbanded in 1997. ...

With the addition of guitarist/vocalist PEPPER BERRY, they quickly became club favorites and critics darlings. The band signed to a record deal just three months after their first show and never let their foot off the gas. Buck's self-titled debut, released in September of '98 on Sympathy for the Record Industry, garnered praise from around the globe and won a spot in BAM's Top 20 California Albums of the Year as well as a nomination for Best Independent Album of the Year by the California Music Awards.

Over the next three years, Buck contributed to several compilations, released numerous 7 inches as well as the 7 song EP Buck in Black on Lancerock Records. The latter recorded entirely live in the studio, no overdubs in a little less than 6 hours!

With a seemingly ever changing drum chair, Buck spent a lot of their time on the road with TV appearances, on-air radio performances and touring with some of their favorite bands like: Dance Hall Crashers, The Muffs, Mr. T Experience, The Queers, and The Groovie Ghoulies.

The group disbanded in October of 2000 playing their last show at their old stomping grounds: Spaceland in Silverlake, CA. Lisa Marr now heads up her country/pop outfit The Lisa Marr Experiment while Pepper Berry fronts the pop/punk trio Bobot Adrenaline.
