Overview

Poile was born in Fort William, Ontario in 1924. He began his career in 1942 as an 18- year-old right wing for the Toronto Maple Leafs. His playing career would include stops in Boston, Chicago, and New York. He finished playing with the WHL's Edmonton Flyers in 1955. Fort William was a city in Northern Ontario, located on the Kaministiquia River, at its entrance to Lake Superior. ... After his career, Poile entered hockey administration. He was the general manager of the Philadelphia Flyers when they were building a club that would win the Stanley Cup in both 1974 and 1975. He was also responsible for building the Vancouver Canucks who would play in the 1982 Cup Finals.
