Buda is a historical city in Hungary on the West bank of the Danube. It was the capital of Hungary from 1361 to 1541 when it was captured by the Ottoman Empire. In 1686 it was captured by Austria. Buda was united with Óbuda and Pest in 1873 to form Budapest. The name Buda is still used in Hungary to denominate all districts of Budapest situated on the West bank of the Danube River.
