Gameplay
There are 129 playable characters in the game. All characters featured in the previous game are available to play as. Battles can now involve up to ten characters fighting one at a time on the battle field, with one teammate coming in after the other has been knocked out or when the player wishes to switch to another fighter. This is referring to Free Battle options. The game has 16 large arenas (11 of which are taken from the previous Budokai Tenkaichi game) and 9 game modes. The game also features in game transformations, in addition to being able to choose to play in a transformed state from the start. In order to transform, you must press R3 and Left/Up/Right to select the form you want. One may also press Down + R3 to revert back to their original state (Only transformations that have shown that they can be undone in the anime can do this). Fusions can be performed in-battle as well, and it is performed the same way as transformations except that you have to press L2. Fusion can only be done in Tag battles and Free battles, and the player must have the suitable character as a Tag partner. For example, Base Goku and Vegeta (second form) to form Vegetto. If that fused character has a second or third form, you can press R3 + L2 + Up or Right to transform into that different form. A customizer has been made to change the characters (See Data Center). The Dueling Mode features a 'Battle Settings' option, where you can adjust the dueling time, COM difficulty level, and set the In-Game Transformations on or off during gameplay (See Dueling) The Wii version of the game features a unique control scheme using the system's remote controller. Using the motion sensing controller, players are able to control their fighters by carrying a remote/nunchuck combo and mimicking moves from the series. Players are able to choose whether they wish to use the Wii Remote and Nunchuk, the Wii Classic Controller, or a GameCube controller. [2] Wii Remote with attached strap The Wii Remote, also nicknamed Wiimote, is the controller for Nintendos Wii console. ...
The Nintendo GameCube (Japanese: ゲームキューブ; originally code-named Dolphin during development; abbreviated as GCN) is Nintendos fourth home video game console, belonging to the 128-bit era; the same generation as Segas Dreamcast, Sonys PlayStation 2, and Microsofts Xbox. ...
Release date information The Wii version was confirmed as being a launch title in the US for November 19, 2006 in an IGN interview with Atari [3] though some stores in the US started selling the Wii version on November 15, 2006. A recent issue of V-Jump listed January 2007 as the release date for the Japanese version of the Wii release. There is much argument about the European Wii release date. The game has possibly been delayed in Australia until March, 2007. Because of this, there is speculation that the game might have additional characters and an additional stage. Game modes Dragon Adventure Dragon Adventure is the main mode of the game which has Dragon Ball Z to Dragon Ball GT, also including many of the movies. The outcome of the battles in the mode changes the course of the story. You can unlock new powers, characters, and "what-if" type scenes, similar to the ones in Dragon Ball Z: Budokai. Story events are marked on the map as red circles, similar to Budokai 3's Adventure mode. Also like Budokai 3, there are unmarked events that can only be found by exploring.
Ultimate Battle Z In Ultimate Battle Z, you progress through a style of fights in which you fight a character and pass to the next without looking for them. You play by fighting 1, 2, or 5 characters in a tag team style, and the battles are arranged in pillars. You can choose the desired difficulty level, 1, 2, or 3. To get more "pillars", you must win the preceding ones. Items can be acquired here and you can also level up Z Items here. Occasionally, there are intruders that you must fight and, if you lose, you lose all points and start over at that pillar. But if you win, the pillar continues.
Dragon Tournament Dragon Tournament is the mode in which you fight in a tournament style based game. The tournaments are tournament style, survival, or World Martial Arts Championship. World Tournament: - You fight in a ring and try to beat the other character by knocking them out of bounds or KOing them.
Cell Games (Survival): - You can only win by KOing the character and your health does not completely return after each fight. It is, however, slightly restored.
World Martial Arts Big Tournament: - This is the same as the Cell Games, but you go to different rings and you will fight one definite person at the end. When you win, Hercule will make an excuse not to fight you.
Dueling Dueling is the mode in which you fight with the characters you've unlocked by either one on one (referring to Single Battle), two on two (referring to Tag Battle), or any up to 5 on any up to 5 (referring to Free Battle). There are also battle settings where you can choose the announcer, the duration of the battles, the difficulty level, and whether or not transformations can be performed during battle. You may allow area effects on or off, on referring to an explosion if a strong energy attack hits the planet and off referring to no explosion when aforementioned action occurs. A new addition to the Budokai series is the option of being able to change the backround music before beginning a fight.
Ultimate Training Ultimate Training is the mode in which you have infinite health and quickly recharging ki. This is perfect to learn the fundamentals of this game and play for a while without worrying about dying. There are two parts, either training or free practice, the former teaches you how to play the game while the latter lets you play however you would like.
Evolution Z Evolution Z is the mode in which you set up your characters combat statistics with potaras won. You generate passwords for your customized characters here by choosing the character and selecting the "Password" option. There is also a "Logic" option with the following selections available: Balanced focuses on both melee combat and ki attacks, Powerful focuses on melee over ki, and Technical which is the opposite of Powerful. You may also view a list of your potaras and fuse potaras here. Like in the previous Tenkaichi, you must have Z Fusion potaras before combining items in order to perform fusions.
Item Shop Item Shop is the mode in which you buy potaras or sell your own. Sell your secret potaras for high money amounts (150,000+). Potaras range from ability (+1, +5, +10) to support capsules. What kind of potaras you have to buy are based on what membership card you have, which is unlocked by playing story mode.
Data Center The Data Center is where you can enter a password for someone else's character. You can also view a list of your edited warriors here. If you have a file of Tenkaichi saved onto your memory card, you can use Sparking Fusion to receive a 100,000 Zeni bonus. This option, however, cannot be used more than once. Look up é in Wiktionary, the free dictionary. ...
Dragon Library The Dragon Library is a collection of information of every character featured in the game. The Character Illustrations section provides a brief summary of what a character has done in the anime, movie, or manga. You can hear the character's voice and view a model of the character here. The Dragon Text section lets you read excerpts from the stories told in the game. The Sound Select allows you to listen to the various songs featured in the game.

Numerous reviews praised the game's high fighter count and detailed cel-shaded graphics, as well as the high amount of fan-service to DBZ fans. Some people, however, have taken issue with the game's complex controls. Mark Bozon at IGN said "The sheer speed and complexity of the controls may turn some people off, but the general combat will eventually come down to two buttons, making the game amazingly easy to learn, but nearly impossible to fully master." Many have said that the game is a "DBZ fan's wet dream," with VGRC.net stating "non-DBZ fighting game fans might even want to give it a spin as well."
