The city of Buhl is located on the old Oregon Trail in the western half of Twin Falls County, Idaho. Historic U.S. Highway 30 goes right through the middle of Buhl along the scenic Thousand Springs Scenic Byway from Twin Falls to Bliss. Known as the "Trout Capital of America," Buhl boasts numerous hatcheries in the immediate surrounding area, which produce most of the rainbow trout consumed in the United States. Buhl was founded on April 17, 1906. It was named for Frank H. BUHL, IDAHO – A public art project proposal by University of Idaho student Cindy Darnell has lured in Buhl residents.
The University of Idaho was the only institution of higher learning that responded to the project announcement, according to Phillip Mead, assistant professor of architecture and former Buhl-area resident.
"The Buhl Centennial Committee and their constituents were extremely impressed by the quality of submissions and the level of professionalism displayed by all the participants," said Byron Clercx, associate professor of art.
