The Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (abbreviated BAS, in Bulgarian: Balgarska akademia na naukite, abbreviated BAN) is the National Academy of Bulgaria, established in 1869. The Bulgarian Learned Society was founded on September 26, 1869 in Braila, present-day Romania. The first Statues accepted were: Brăila is a city in Muntenia, eastern Romania, a port on the Danube and the capital of the Braila county, in the close vecinity of Spanish Libro de conoscimiento (Book of knowledge).
