Bun Boy is the name of a small American restaurant chain, established in 1926 in the Mojave Desert area of California. Famous for their fresh strawberry pie, Bun Boy has locations in Barstow and Baker. Both are easily accessible from Interstate 15 (formerly US Highways 91 and 66), the main thoroughfare through the desert between Southern California and Las Vegas. The more notable of the two is the original Baker location situated along an original alignment of Route 91. It is a popular stop not only for Las Vegas_bound tourists, but for tourists preparing to travel west to Death Valley via California State Highway 127. The complex includes a 24-hour restaurant, country store, motel, rest facilities and the world's largest outdoor thermometer at 134 feet/41 m high. The digital thermometer's height corresponds with the highest temperature reading ever recorded in the United States: 134° F/56.6° C on July 10, 1913 in nearby Death Valley. As one of the few rest stops through the desert, Bun Boy is heavily promoted with billboards that line I_15. The country store has the distinction of having more "California Super Lotto" lottery winners than any other single location in the state, prompting extremely long lines when the jackpot reaches record highs.
