Bunkyo University (文教大学 Bunkyo Daigaku) is in one of the private universities in Japan.


The meanings of Bunkyo are education and learning. This university consists mainly of education and research of cultural sciences and social science and is famous for teacher training. It was a girls' school, and was a name called Rissho Women's University. Then, it became coeducation and the name was changed into Bunkyo University.


Headquarters is located in Hatanodai, Shinagawa-ward, Tokyo-metropolis, Japan. This University is establishment of the Legally Educational Foundation Bunkyo University Institute. There are two campuses, the Koshigaya Campus located in the city of Koshigaya, Saitama, Japan and the Shonan Campus located in the city of Chigasaki, Kanagawa, Japan.


The soul of establishment of a school is the human love based on the Rissho Soul.

History

In 1966, It was established as a university called Rissho Women's University. And the Koshigaya Campus was established in Koshigaya-city, Saitama-prefecture, Japan. The name was changed into Bunkyo University in 1976, and it has been educateing students by coeducation since the next year. The Legally Educational Foundation Rissho Institute which established the university changed the name into the Legally Educational Foundation Bunkyo University Institute in 1983. The Shonan Campus was established in the city of Chigasaki, Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan in 1985.

  • 1976 Faculty of Human Sciences was established. The university name was changed to Bunkyo University.
  • 1977 Bunkyo University becames coeducation.
  • 1980 Faculty of Information and Communications was established. Faculty of Home Economics Study was abolished.
  • 1985 Shonan Campus was prepared.
  • 1987 Faculty of Language and Literature was established.
  • 1990 Faculty of International Study was established.
  • 1992 Special Postgraduate Course (Education Major) was established.
  • 1993 Bunkyo University Graduate School was founded and School of Human Sciences (Master's Program) was established. Special Department Course (Foreign Student Program) was established.
  • 1999 School of Language and Culture (Master's Program) was established in the graduate school.
  • 2000 Doctor's Program was added to School of Human Sciences of the graduate school.
  • 2005 School of Information Study is going to be established in the graduate school. (It is a plan.)

Bunkyo University has two campuses, the Koshigaya campus and the Shonan campus. The headquarters of a university secretariat is located in Hatanodai, Shinagawa-ward, Tokyo-metropolis, Japan, and the training recreation dormitory is located in Kiyosato, Takane-town, Kitakoma-district, Yamanashi Prefecture, Japan.
