Buras-Triumph is a census-designated place located in Plaquemines Parish, Louisiana. As of the 2000 census, the CDP had a total population of 3,358.

Geography

Buras_Triumph is located at 29°21'6" North, 89°30'50" West (29.351783, _89.513815)¹.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 18.6 km² (7.2 mi²). 13.0 km² (5.0 mi²) of it is land and 5.6 km² (2.2 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 30.32% water.

Demographics

As of the census² of 2000, there are 3,358 people, 1,146 households, and 850 families residing in the CDP. The population density is 258.8/km² (670.9/mi²). There are 1,408 housing units at an average density of 108.5/km² (281.3/mi²). The racial makeup of the CDP is 71.68% White, 10.90% African American, 1.67% Native American, 12.30% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 1.28% from other races, and 2.17% from two or more races. 1.10% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 1,146 households out of which 40.4% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 53.6% are married couples living together, 12.7% have a female householder with no husband present, and 25.8% are non-families. 20.9% of all households are made up of individuals and 8.1% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.92 and the average family size is 3.40.

In the CDP the population is spread out with 30.3% under the age of 18, 10.0% from 18 to 24, 29.7% from 25 to 44, 22.1% from 45 to 64, and 7.9% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 32 years. For every 100 females there are 102.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 105.9 males.

The median income for a household in the CDP is $33,059, and the median income for a family is $41,216. Males have a median income of $35,980 versus $16,917 for females. The per capita income for the CDP is $13,426. 20.7% of the population and 18.1% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 23.2% of those under the age of 18 and 15.2% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
