Burlington Junction is a city located in Nodaway County, Missouri. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 632.


Geography

Burlington Junction is located at 40°26'47" North, 95°3'59" West (40.446282, _95.066345)1.


According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 2.9 km˛ (1.1 mi˛). 2.9 km˛ (1.1 mi˛) of it is land and none of it is covered by water.


Demographics

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 632 people, 254 households, and 170 families residing in the city. The population density is 217.9/km˛ (563.8/mi˛). There are 288 housing units at an average density of 99.3/km˛ (256.9/mi˛). The racial makeup of the city is 99.68% White, 0.00% African American, 0.32% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 0.00% from two or more races. 0.16% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.


There are 254 households out of which 35.8% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 55.9% are married couples living together, 6.7% have a female householder with no husband present, and 32.7% are non-families. 29.1% of all households are made up of individuals and 16.5% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.46 and the average family size is 3.06.


In the city the population is spread out with 27.7% under the age of 18, 10.8% from 18 to 24, 25.9% from 25 to 44, 18.8% from 45 to 64, and 16.8% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 34 years. For every 100 females there are 92.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 83.5 males.


The median income for a household in the city is $29,722, and the median income for a family is $34,808. Males have a median income of $28,068 versus $18,214 for females. The per capita income for the city is $13,065. 12.0% of the population and 6.7% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 10.7% of those under the age of 18 and 13.2% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.

The Burlington Junction branch of the American Red Cross has been duly recognized and is now a member of the county organization, working with the Nodaway County Chapter.
She is a graduate of the Burlington Junction high school and of Simpson College of Indianola Iowa.
A meeting was held in the city hall at 2:30 o’clock Saturday afternoon by men of Burlington Junction and the surrounding country and a permanent organization formed for the protection of property from theft.

She is survived by her husband, Beryl, of the home in Burlington Junction; five daughters, Joan Meyer, Burlington Junction, Linda Lekey, Maryville, Sue Collins, Savannah, Missouri, Rita Hamilton, Burlington Junction, and Lavone Norris, Olathe, Kansas; eighteen grandchildren; twenty-six great grandchildren; her twin brothers, wife, Eva Heiman, Clarksdale, Missouri, and a number of nieces and nephews.
She was born April 13, 1915, at Isadora, Missouri, to Robert R. and Agnes Clark Shipley and lived most of her life in that area before moving to Burlington Junction the summer of 1973.
She is survived by a sister, Marjorie Moses of Burlington Junction, a foster son, Terry Wyer, Burlington Junction, two granddaughters, a great-granddaughter, and a number of nieces and nephews.
