A former emergency medical technician (EMT) for the Burney Fire Protection District said there are fewer people available to respond to ambulance calls within the district after fire commissioners made the decision to cut money paid to EMTs by more than half.
Leah Turner, an advanced-trained, top-level EMT-2 who is also a full-time service clerk for the Shasta County sheriff’s department, said she couldn’t afford the cut to $20 per ambulance call from the previous $50 she was paid.
