Burstarr has only appeared a scant few times; all of which in the pages of Peter David's Captain Marvel title. The first time Burstarr fought Captain Marvel, his father Blastaar was present and looked at the battle as a rite of passage; refusing to help his son when the tide turned against him. The second time Burstarr and Captain Marvel fought, Captain Marvel broke Burstarr's neck; killing him. Later in that same issue, Captain Marvel resurrected Burstarr from the dead just to prove that raising the dead was now within his capabilities.
