History Founded in 1871, the club became founder members of the Midland League in 1890. In the 1893-94 season, they finished as champions despite a points deduction for fielding an ineligible player, and were elected to the Second Division of The Football League. However, the club didn't last long in the League, and at the end of the 1896-97 season, after finishing second last in the League, they were voted out.
