Buzz Buzz arrives in 199X, the time in which EarthBound is set, apparently through the use of the meteorite that crashed in the mountains of Onett, near Ness's home. Buzz Buzz emerges from the meteorite in a beam of light and tells Ness that he is from ten years in the future, where "all is devastation" because of the cosmic destroyer, Giygas. On their path home from the meteorite, the group is ambushed by Starman Junior. During the ensuing fight, Buzz Buzz protects the party through the use of PSI Shield Sigma. After the battle, Ness returns Pokey and Picky Minch to their home, and when Ness leaves, Buzz Buzz is smashed by their mother, Lardna Minch. Buzz Buzz remarks that he was weaker than he thought, and before dying, he makes a long speech to Ness about the quest that lies before him. At the conclusion of the speech, Buzz Buzz gives Ness an important item, the Sound Stone, and remarks that everything is starting to fade, but asks if Ness would like hear the speech again.
