The original CDNOW.com was created in August 1994 by brothers Jason and Matthew Olim, who resided in Ambler, Pennsylvania at the time. The small operation in their parent's basement originally specialized in selling hard-to-find CDs. The company went public in 1998 and moved their headquarters a few miles down the road to Fort Washington, Pennsylvania. As a result of the many mergers and corporate buy-outs, the original headquarters, based at 1005 Virginia Drive, is now an abandoned building.
