The CIS national football team represented the Commonwealth of Independent States, the alliance of 15 newly formed sovereign states of the Soviet Union during the first half of 1992. Since the USSR national team had already booked a spot in the Euro 1992 by qualifying in 1991, the only legitimate way for them to take part in the competition was to take part as a unified team.
