The station was launched in 1959 at its present AM 1420 KHz frequency and is owned by CHUM Limited. CKPT was given approval in March, 2007 to convert to the FM band at 99.3 MHz. The frequency was chosen by CHUM LTD. however, CKKK-FM currently broadcasts at 99.5 FM and will have to seek an alternate frequency.
