Encyclopedia > CMX (band)

CMX is a Finnish rock band. They are known for lead singer and bass player A. W. Yrjänä's poetic lyrics of religious imagery and their progressive musical style that combines influences from e.g. Pixies, Helmet and Dead Kennedys. In later years they have also been heavily influenced by 1960s and 1970s progressive rock bands such as Yes, King Crimson and Pink Floyd. These bands' influence is best seen on their double-album Dinosaurus Stereophonicus which is sometimes considered to be sort of a tribute to the progressive rock scene of the 1970s. Their own influence on Finnish music of the late nineties and early 21st century is very notable, and the band has gradually gained large-scale mainstream success. Recently their success has reached the point where they have been named Best Band of the Year by readers multiple times in several Finnish rock magazines and even Best Band of the World in one instance, to which the band reacted mostly as a joke.
