Encyclopedia > CP24

CablePulse 24 is a 24-hour Canadian television channel which broadcasts local and international news for the Toronto, Ontario television market, by cable and direct broadcast satellite in southern Ontario.

It is owned by CHUM Limited, and is closely tied to their Toronto broadcast station, CITY, sharing a newsroom, anchors, reporters and other staff with that station's CityPulse news. News programming airing live on CITY, such as CityPulse, Breakfast Television and special coverage, is always simulcast on CP24. The channel further shares resources with other CHUM Limited television properties, and traffic coverage with the CHUM radio newsroom.

The station's visual format is of a window using about two-thirds of the screen, where news and information programs are broadcast; the surrounding space contains weather and traffic information, along with scrolling news headlines and other details. This format has been described as more closely resembling a website than a conventional television channel.

In overnight periods, the channel broadcasts historical newscasts from CityPulse's archive as Rewind, and news from international sources such as Deutsche Welle originated in English, or bearing English dubbing or subtitling, as Daily Planet.

Most cable companies that carry the station air it on cable channel 24. The station does not air on any cable system outside of Southern Ontario, but may be available on direct broadcast satellite in some markets. There have been at least tentative plans to launch localized versions of CP24 for other markets, such as Vancouver and Ottawa.

The channel was originally owned by CHUM Limited with minority partner Sun Media, owner of the Toronto Sun daily newspaper. Sun writers and commentators were featured regularly on the channel. The relationship ended in 2004, when the Sun's owners sold their share in CablePulse 24 when they acquired the independent over-air broadcast station Toronto One.

CYP26A1 - cytochrome P450, family 26, subfamily A, polypeptide 1 (3205 words)
Homologues to the minor CAB proteins CP24, CP26 and CP29 were identified by the following criteria: enrichment in photosystem II preparations, immunological cross-reactivities, spectroscopic properties and protein-fragment amino acid sequences.
Concomitant with the expression of CYP26, differentiating ES cells grown in the absence of LIF activate the expression of the differentiation marker gene FGF-5 whereas the expression of the stem cell marker gene FGF-4 decreases.
With the exception of chlorophyll b, which is known to be associated with the complexes comprising the outer antenna (LHCII, CP24, CP26, CP29), the spectral forms occur with similar absorption maxima and are present in rather similar amounts in each of the antenna complexes.
