NissansCVT uses variable cone shaped pulleys and a segmented steel belt as opposed to a hydrostatic or toroidal solution.
IE the margin on the CVT is 150NM?
Nissan is being careful not to over emphasize the CVT in their marketing of the Murano even though they have spent lots of money in the development of the technology over a couple decades, have used it for years in "foreign" markets, and some racing.
Note that while the Honda Insight and Toyota Prius both offer CVTtransmissions that both provide stepless acceleration and a continuous range of motor speed to vehicle speed ratios, the Prius CVT (called 'ECVT' by Toyota) system is mechanically entirely different.
The CVTtransmission used in the Insight is very similar to the CVTtransmission that Honda has used in other vehicles, including the Civic HX in the United States, and the Honda Logo in Europe and Japan.
The CVTtransmission consists of an oil-pressure variable input (aka "driving") and output (aka "driven") pulley, and a metal belt that connects the two.
