Soon after it was opened the post became known as Cabanne's Post, named after its operator, John Pierre Cabanne. Located 10 miles north of Omaha, Nebraska, six miles south of Fort Atchison, Cabanne's Post became known from the writing of Prince Paul, Duke of Wurttemberg, who visited the post in 1823.[1] He was a notorious recruiter for the American Fur Company, and among his many recruits was the man whom La Barge, Wyoming was named after. Cabanne continued operating the post until 1833.
