Duke Union Community Television (Cable 13) is the student-run television station at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina. Cable 13 is the first all student-run television station in the nation. It was founded in 1976 and it will celebrate its 30th year in the 2006-2007 academic year. Approximately 100 students work for Cable 13 and it is one of the largest college television stations. Mission

Cable 13 informs educates, and entertains the entire Duke community through diverse and unique programming on a regular basis. It offers hands-on television production experience, coverage of campus activities, artistic freedom, and a forum to develop and showcase innovative student productions and alternative perspectives on campus, state and global issues.


History

Cable 13 producers have produced some of the finest student productions ever made. One of them is 'Ivy Tower' (produced by Stephen Zapotoczny, producer of 'We Were Soldiers') which was broadcast by over 60 college stations in the nation in 1995. We Were Soldiers is a 2002 war film that dramatized the Battle of Ia Drang during the Vietnam War. ...
