Insects of the order Trichoptera. Caddis flies have an aquatic larval stage, then undergo a metamorphosis to become short-living free-flying adults. The larvae are characterized by the construction of cases, or houses, from sand, sticks, and other organic material. However, all species do not exhibit this trait.
