In engineering, caisson is a retaining structure used in locations normally under water to keep the working environment dry.

The lower segment of each caisson transverse frame is constituted by a portion of the upper beam of a crosspiece of the platform, and the lower longitudinal edges of the caisson are integrated with the upper beams of two girders.

In the case of a single longitudinal caisson on the axis of the apparatus, such a structure is analogous to that of an airplane, the caisson resembling the fuselage, and the platform being analogous to wings running all along the fuselage.
